NRS 412 Leadership and Outcomes Management 10 credits

NRS 412A - 5 credits theory online*
*one full day intensive seminar may be scheduled regionally
NRS 412B - 5 credits clinical – in local region, preceptored by a CTA (clinical teaching associate) RN with OSHU clinical faculty facilitation

Course Outcomes:

  • Collect and use outcomes data to provide evidence for practice changes
  • Use evidence supporting best practices in working with assistive personnel, direct
    care workers and other unlicensed nursing personnel.
  • Engage in clinical and/or ethical decision making with other health discipline members.
  • Analyze a system-level health issue, with policy, practice, ethical and economic implications.
  • Develop a change management plan for the system-level health issue
  • Analyze leadership skills with nursing colleagues, interdisciplinary team, care planning conferences and community groups.

Examples of online activities include asynchronous discussions, posting assignments, evidence-based papers and projects.

Clinical setting varies to interest of student. Clinical is more project-based than care-based, though is focused to a clinical site. Activities include assessment of healthy work environment; nurse management and leadership roles; organizational structure, function, interactions; national and international leadership and organization; participation in agency determined projects that allow students to apply theory content to real world situations resulting in a performance improvement change project.
